12/07/2020

It's Sunday the day of rest for most, even though since February everyday has been a rest day for everyone except the essential workers, so shouldn't we take a moment to think about them and the people lost to this deadly virus. Okay minute taken now let's see what is out there to rant about today.

In America, as the virus rolls through state after state unchallenged Trump has worn a mask in public for the first time since the start of the coronavirus pandemic as he visited the Walter Reed military hospital outside Washington, where he met wounded soldiers and health care workers. In a publicity opportunity Trump stated he'd never been against masks but did believe they had a time and a place, like when you're in a hospital, especially in a particular setting, where you're talking to a lot of soldiers and people that, in some cases, just got off the operating tables, continuing on stating he thought it was a great thing to wear a mask which is his way of back tracking on previous statements for example when he previously said that he would not wear a mask and mocked Democratic rival Joe Biden for doing so. This statement came on the same day America recorded a further 66,528 coronavirus cases, a new daily record. What is more gobsmackingly ridiculous is that in one photo Trump can be clearly seen with the mask pulled down of his nose which is defeating the objective of a mask as he opens himself and others up to spreading the virus, how incompetent is this man. A mask is there to cover the mouth and nose for protection not as a fashion item or to gain favour with the people.

I don't have the words to express how I feel about this person, Well I do, but if I put them in this piece I could face a visit from the oppressive law about it, so instead I will move on to other news like how former US special counsel Robert Mueller has made a rare public intervention to defend his indictment of former Trump adviser Roger Stone. Stone whose legal sentence of 40 months in jail was commuted by Trump on Friday (claiming Stone was a victim of a witch hunt) was found guilty on charges linked to an investigation led by Mr Mueller that found Russia had tried to boost the Trump 2016 election campaign. Today in the Washington Post Mueller has condemned Trumps actions stating that Stone was rightly convicted of obstruction, witness tampering and lying to Congress. Along with many people, leading Democrats, a few Republicans as well as Mueller have condemned Trump's decision, saying it undermined the justice system. I, as an outsider think the Americans need to take a seriously long hard look at the powers given to a president especially when it lets them subvert the laws of the land without any consequences other than a little slap on the wrist which is all that Trump seems to be getting. Time and time again this man has used subterfuge, lies and blatant dishonesty to gain what he wanted whether it be hushing up sexual abuse, money laundering, a dodgy business empire through fraud and many more unethical skeletons yet to be found, but the biggest rip off, of his career has to be hoodwinking the American people that a bankrupt orange bigoted racist was the best choice over a seasoned female ex first lady and politician to run a country which he has proved inept at doing just like all the other failed ventures to his name. Well that's all I have to say on that today, so let's check out what the other bigoted racist in dear old Blighty has been up to.

Well as the virus still holds a grip over the UK, the main headlines is how the government is proposing a £705m funding package to help manage Britain's borders as the UK prepares to leave the EU customs union at the end of the year which could be spent elsewhere if this useless debacle of a scheme of Brexit had be shot down in the beginning. The plans include new border control posts and 500 extra Border Force staff which cabinet Office Minister Michael Gove stated would help the UK "seize the opportunities" post-Brexit which includes new border posts created inland where existing ports have no room to expand to cope with the extra checks that will be required at the existing entry points, but this only relates to the external borders of England, Scotland and Wales as the government is expected to publish specific guidance and measures for Northern Ireland in the coming weeks. Labour has accused the government of complacency in its preparations for the end of the Brexit transition period. My question is how the hell are the government going to find the funds to do all this as they keep pledging money here, there and everywhere. Will they be bank rolling it themselves or is it the unsuspecting idiots who voted for Brexit in the first place who will be taxed and re-taxed cutting the poorer workers incomes down even more than they are already. It always astounds me how they can keep plucking these very big numbers out of the sky, but never seem to inform of where the money is coming from in an economic climate heading in to recession as businesses struggle to stay a float and exports have all but ceased, also as ninety percent of the population struggles by on meagre handouts, yet you haven't once heard these minister's state they would forgo there governmental pay packets have you.

Johnson who doesn't have to pay for a damn thing except a percentage of the tax on bills still earns over £150,000 pounds a year while other cabinet ministers receive around £75,000 a year, so why don't they forgo that money in respect of helping towards the economic resurgence of the country instead of charging extortionate taxes on the average Joe who gets around £28,000 a year or in most cases really only earns around £18,000. Where is the equality in this nation especially when you see such blatant breaches of inequality like a man who has two paid residences, a company jumbo jet, company cars, company paid holidays, servants and probably a clothing allowance is paid so much money for doing so little work, especially when he is doing such a shit job anyway. All in all I foresee a very dismal future for this country for years to come trying to rise above the repercussions of an inept government who firstly failed to get a positive outcome for Brexit which was a negative decision in the first place, twiddled their thumbs on making a decisive decision when it mattered over how to guard against deadly infections they were forewarned about and have dug a deep shit storm of a mire in a country slipping in to a very dark recession.

I keep coming back to the fact that a coalition government is what is best for this country right now especially as the opposition party seem to have their best leader in years since the Blair era in Starmer who is now strongly favoured by voters over Johnson when people are asked about the two leaders’ qualities such as their competence, their ability to take decisions and get things done, and their ability to represent this country abroad all choose the new Labour leader. On that I will call it a day.

Rant you tomorrow!
