18/08/2020

The day is Tuesday, the 203rd day since COVID-19 breached the shores of the UK and the 209th since it breached the shores of the US and both countries are still no further forward in defeating this virus and our elected governments are screwing up time and time again, then backtracking on inept decisions made by inept politicians. Let's take a look at the latest shitstorm occurring that we can rant about.

In America, they have at least got the opportunity to replace the present inept politicians in the upcoming November election unlike us in the UK and the Democrats are pulling out all the stops to show how unsuitable Trump is as a leader with various marketing campaigns, Twitter feeds, quotes from disaffected members of Trump Republican party and the big gun at the virtual Democratic convention which was former first lady Michelle Obama whose rousing speech condemning Trump with every word as she spoke openly and frankly stating how Donald Trump is the wrong president for the country. She continued on stating that whenever you look to the current White House for some leadership, or consolation or any semblance of steadiness, what you get instead is chaos, division and a total and utter lack of empathy from an administration where it's leaders label fellow citizens as enemies of the state, while emboldening torch-bearing white supremacists as lawful. One true point That she made was how the role of president was not one you can fake your way through, That being president doesn't change a persons true character, it simply reveals the character of the person who is president. The former first lady pulled no punches when telling America and the world that Trump needs to removed from office and while the corrupt republicans illegally close minority polling station to prevent people from voting and use the USPS to create problems with mail in voting, she urged people to apply for absentee ballots now, return them early and follow up to make sure their vote was available to be counted, then when that was done urge family, friends, neighbours and colleagues to do the same, so their voice is heard come election day.

While Michelle Obama spoke to the nation what was Trump doing, well he was continuing to alienate friends and foe alike. In one speech he upped the stakes on his unilateral fight with China by vowing to create 10 million jobs in 10 months stating he will end america's reliance on China and suggesting tax credits to entice US firms to move factories out of China or to strip government contracts from firms that continue to outsource work to China while also threatening to include more Chinese technology firms on its blacklist of companies which face bans in the US, alongside TikTok and WeChat, again accusing Chinese companies of stealing American jobs and intellectual property. I have a question, does this mean he will strip contracts from Ivanka and Kushner as they have business dealings in China? What you are basically seeing is an election bluff where Trump uses American patriotism to win votes by creating a big bad wolf out of China like he did with the Mexico in his immigration policy speech of 2016 where he promised a border wall financed by Mexico which has miraculously not appeared or is it an invisible wall no one can see or cross. So China is the foe, but I thought New Zealand was a friend of America, so why is Trump verbally attacking them for their recent COVID-19 outbreak, stating that the place the world hailed as a success story are now facing a “big surge” in cases, the place they were using to hold up now they’re having a big surge … they were holding up names of countries and now they’re saying ‘whoops!, Do you see what’s happening in New Zealand? They beat it, they beat it, it was like front-page news because they wanted to show me something (so narcissistic, thinking all news headlines are for his benefit), Big surge in New Zealand, you know it’s terrible, we don’t want that, but this is an invisible enemy that should never have been let to come to Europe and the rest of the world by China (again attacking China for the disease). So as thousands of Americans still die daily from the coronavirus, Trump thinks it a good idea to chastise a country who only recorded 22 new cases of the virus in two days after 102 days clear compared to America's recorded cases of 42,000 in one day after no days clear. In overall terms you are talking about 22 people dead from COVID-19 in New Zealand, compared with more than 170,000 in the US, the highest death toll in the world, accounting for nearly 22% of deaths globally. Come on America you have to see not just the economic disaster Trump is creating put also the political disaster he is creating by alienating both friendly and unfriendly nations alike, this man has no political acumen or a single empathetic nerve in his body, how can even one person think he is suitable for a second term which will cause an apocalyptic future for America which you may never recover from.

On that I will turn my attention to dear old Blighty and our own inept leader. So the will of the people or should I say the will of the students have won out in the end and the education secretary has backtracked on his incessant need to be right about the damn computer algorithm that decide so many students A level results. The results change has now created another issue which too many students for too little places within their first choice University causing a crisis in who gets a place and who doesn't get a place. But that is by the by as the real issue is how the government is being led and how the primeminister is really doing his job. The underlying issue is that Johnson was first absent, and then he went on holiday as the results were released prompting not joyous, dancing students, but angry protesting students who expected higher results as predicted by their teachers. His education secretary Gavin Williamson was initially defiant, until he accepted on Monday afternoon that students could keep their teacher-predicted grades.

What we are fast seeing is the limits of Johnson’s governing style. He sees himself as a chairman-leader, who directs and inspires while others orbit him happily. Yet this is inconsistent with the quality of his cabinet appointments. Mr Williamson is education secretary because of his role in Mr Johnson’s leadership campaign, despite having been found wanting as defence secretary in the past. The prime minister has already resisted calls for resignations, even in seemingly clear-cut cases, such as his adviser Dominic Cummings’ avant-garde interpretation of lockdown rules, housing secretary Robert Jenrick’s ill-advised closeness with a property developer, and home secretary Priti Patel’s alleged bullying of civil servants. Instead, his team are experts at offering up other scapegoats, especially in officialdom. Witness the suggestion that Public Health England, the body involved in the pandemic’s response, will be replaced and will be run by an interim chief Baroness Dido Harding, who runs NHS Test and Trace in England and is also the wife of the Tory MP who has called for the dismantling of the NHS in favour of an insurance style health service which in my opinion is putting the fox in charge of the hen house.

I am just totally dumbfounded that such a person has been allowed to clearly march on through disaster after disaster especially with such well publicised political and personal screw ups in his life like the failed extravagances while mayor of London such as poorly designed buses and the abortive Garden Bridge, his extramarital relationships have barely rocked him, his Chameleon-style ideological changes from defender of bankers to the champion of the working class have not damaged his aura of authenticity. Where many politicians exhaust voters’ trust, Johnson just plays a different game as he keeps voters entertained. What is even more staggering is that the Conservative party still leads in the polls despite the pandemic, which has Johnson almost tied with Labour leader Keir Starmer as to who would be the better prime minister.

The basics is we have a man in charge of our government who would rather sit back dictate others tasks that should be accomplished while absent from the front lines hiding away. We have a leader who has stumbled and failed at everything he has attempted while profiting of his position. We have a man who suns himself on holiday while the country drops in to a pit of economic, educational and deathly hell which has him as the devil incarnate sneering and laughing as he watches over his achievement of death and mayhem succeed in his ultimate goal of dictatorship and blind obedience which he still has over three years to accomplish. As I said before both America and the United Kingdom have inept and corrupt leaders in charge, but at least America can change their future sooner rather than later because dear old Blighty is in the first stages of Johnson's destructive path with three more years still to sink us further in to oblivion and a socioeconomic wasteland under the present regime, because that's what we have right now. We are not a democratic society overseen by a democratic leader, we are a people under the thumb of a regime of incompetence and corruption. On that note I will call it a day,

Rant you tomorrow!
